Estonian Ambassador to Slovenia Presents Credentials

On Thursday, 20 January, Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to the Republic of Slovenia Priit Pallum presented his credentials to President of Slovenia Danilo Türk. The ambassador resides in Budapest.

Ambassador Priit Pallum passed greetings from Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves along to the Slovenian president. In the discussion that followed the presenting of credentials, Ambassador Pallum and President Danilo Türk talked about Estonia-Slovenia bilateral relations. “Bilateral relations between Estonia and Slovenia are characterised by reciprocal understanding and good co-operation. We will welcome the Slovenian president to Estonia for his visit in May,” noted Ambassador Pallum. The ambassador added that co-operation in the cultural and public diplomacy sectors could be developed further in order to also increase people-to-people contacts. “There is also potential to develop economic relations,” said Pallum. At their meeting they also spoke about Estonia’s economic situation, and President Danilo Türk congratulated Estonia on joining the euro zone. The two also talked about the two countries co-operating by supporting each other’s candidacies in international organisations.

Estonian Ambassador Priit Pallum was born in Tallinn in 1964. He graduated from the economics department of Tartu University in 1989. Pallum has worked in Estonia’s foreign service since 1991, when he began working as a counsellor for the external economic policy department. From 1998-1999 Pallum was the Estonian ambassador to the UN and other international organisations in Geneva and Estonia’s permanent representative to the World Trade Organisation. Starting in 2000 Pallum worked as the undersecretary for external economic policy and consular affairs, after which he became the ambassador to the Netherlands from 2002-2006. Before assuming his current position, Priit Pallum was the director of the Foreign Ministry’s external economic and development co-operation department. As of 2010 Priit Pallum is the Estonian ambassador to Hungary and Croatia.
