No. 79-E

On Tuesday, 8 March, Estonia’s first ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Margus Rava presented his credentials to King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein. Ambassador Rava resides in Tallinn.

In the conversation that followed the presenting of credentials, Ambassador Rava expressed his satisfaction that relations between Estonia and Jordan have grown closer over the past few years. “Estonia has made it a goal to expand its relations with Arabian nations,” stated Ambassador Rava. The Estonian ambassador and King of Jordan both acknowledged the importance of oil shale energy to the economic development of both countries. The Eesti Energia co-operation project is among the largest for both Estonia and Jordan. “Estonia understands very well how important it is for a country with few resources to have energy supply security,” said Rava.

Ambassador Rava noted that Estonia is interested in enlivening relations with Jordan in other sectors as well, for example information technology. “We are prepared to share our experiences with e-government and e-elections with Jordan, as well as the importance of working out cyber security measures,” the ambassador added. “Estonia universities are also interested in co-operating with Jordan’s research institutions and universities,” Rava added.

Ambassador Rava also met with Secretary General of the Jordanian Foreign Ministry Mohammad Ali Al-Thahr and Director General of Jordan’s Natural Resources Authority Dr. Maher Hijazin.
