25.03.2011

No 93-E

Foreign Minister Urmas Paet has stated that the intensive search for the Estonian citizens who were abducted in Lebanon continues. “Although there are various versions of the event and where the victims could be, so far none of these theories have been confirmed,” said Paet. “Therefore the perpetrators of the crime and the motives for it are still unknown,” he added.

Foreign Minister Paet also confirmed that close co-operation with the Lebanese authorities and our partner countries continues.

At the European Council held yesterday, Prime Minister Andrus Ansip informed his colleagues of the kidnapping of seven Estonian citizens in Lebanon.

The Foreign Ministry remains in contact with the families of the victims and is keeping them updated.

The interdepartmental crisis commission will continue its work led by Foreign Minister Urmas Paet.
