Estonia Hopes for Croatia’s Accession to European Union to Go Smoothly

Today at his meeting with Foreign Minister of Croatia Gordan Jandrokovic in Dubrovnik, Foreign Minister Urmas Paet congratulated his Croatian colleague on the conclusion of their European Union accession negotiations. “Croatia has done a lot of work to achieve this goal and we hope that with some further reforms you will be completely ready to accede by July 2013,” Paet stated. “Hopefully it will be possible to sign Croatia’s accession agreement prior to the end of this year and the ratification process will proceed without obstacles,” he added.

The Croatian foreign minister thanked Estonia for its support thus far on the path to European Union accession and expressed interest in continuing co-operation. “Estonia continues to be ready to share its reform experiences with Croatia in the area of e-solutions, for example, but of course also in other sectors,” Paet confirmed.

In talking about defence co-operation, Paet acknowledged their co-operation thus far in NATO and invited Croatia to join the NATO Cyber Defence Centre. Paet confirmed at their meeting that the Baltic Defence College is interested in continuing co-operation with Croatia.
