Estonian Consul General Begins Work in Sydney

16.08.2011

The Estonian consul general in Australia has started working in Sydney. The Estonian consul general is Triinu Rajasalu.

Foreign Minister Paet emphasised that the establishment of a consulate general in Sydney is necessary for both Estonia and for the large Estonian community in Australia. “Australia is an important travel destination for Estonians. In recent years the number of young Estonians who have travelled to Australia has risen dramatically. The consul will give our citizens better opportunities to get consular services and also receive consular aid if necessary,” said Foreign Minister Paet. “In addition, Australia is an important partner for Estonia in international co-operation,” he added.

The foreign minister expressed hope that the work of our diplomat will help to promote Estonia-Australia relations and also provide an opportunity to intensify bilateral relations with other countries in that area of the world.

As of 16 August, citizens can submit passport applications at the consulate general’s temporary location. Passport applications will initially be accepted on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Passport applicants can register in advance for their visit time here: http://eestipass-aug11.eventbrite.com/
