Icelandic President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson to Visit Estonia


Icelandic President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson will be in Estonia for a working visit on 20 August. Iceland was the first state to recognise the restored independence of the Republic of Estonia in August 1991.

The president has a meeting and a dinner scheduled with President of the Republic Toomas Hendrik Ilves. Topics to be discussed are bilateral relations, the countries’ economic situations, security policy, and European Union enlargement, including Iceland’s accession negotiations. The celebration of Iceland Day in Tallinn on 21 August will also be discussed. 

President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson will participate in the “Song of Freedom” concert at the Song Festival Grounds along with President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, and at midnight he will officially kick off Iceland Day.
