Estonia Helping Palestinian National Authority Create Effective Governing System

No. 314-E

At his meeting today with Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology of the Palestinian National Authority Mashhour Abudaka, Foreign Minister Urmas Paet said that Estonia is prepared to continue co-operating with Palestine in implementing information technology solutions in public administration. “These kinds of developments will help the Palestinian Authority become as effective as possible and serve as preparation for a two-state solution – the peaceful co-existence of Israel and Palestine,” he added.

Paet stated that Estonia is helping Palestine develop a portal that brings together electronic databases (X-Road) in order to provide better governing and public services. “Estonia has formulated IT solutions that significantly simplify the work of state officials and make it more effective. The use of today’s information and communication technology solutions helps people access essential e-services and thereby helps establish good and transparent administrative practice,” he stated.

Estonia has also shared information with Palestine on organising e-learning and in using IT solutions for educational administration.

Foreign Minister Paet confirmed at the meeting that Estonia supports a two-state solution – the peaceful co-existence of Israel and Palestine. Paet emphasised that the most important thing is to restore negotiations between Israel and Palestine. “A sustainable and peaceful solution can only come from negotiations, which are supported by the international community,” he added.
