Moldovan Prime Minister Vladimir Filat to Visit Estonia

From 19-20 October, Moldovan Prime Minister Vladimir Filat will be in Estonia for an official visit.

The Moldovan prime minister has meetings scheduled with President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, Prime Minister Andrus Ansip, Riigikogu Speaker Ene Ergma, and Foreign Minister Urmas Paet.

Topics to be discussed during the visit are bilateral relations, economic issues, development co-operation, domestic developments in Moldova, Eastern Partnership, and European Union enlargement. Opportunities for co-operation between the parliaments of the countries as well as co-operation in the areas of culture, education, and research will also be addressed. Relations with neighbouring countries and the Transnistria conflict will be discussed as well.

Within the framework of his visit, Prime Minister Vladimir Filat will open a Moldova-Estonia business forum together with Prime Minister Andrus Ansip, give a lecture at the Foreign Policy Institute on Moldova’s European integration and the Transnistria issue, become acquainted with Muuga Harbour, and meet with representatives of the Moldovan diaspora.

Vladimir Filat will also visit the Museum of Occupations and get to know Tallinn’s Old Town under the guidance of Jüri Kuuskemaa. The minister will also visit the e-Governance Academy and the Centre of Eastern Partnership.

The prime minister will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iurie Leanca, Defence Minister Vitalie Marinuta, Minister of Education Mihai Sleatitchi, Minister of Labour, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga, and Minister of Environmental Affairs Gheorghe Salaru. The Moldovan ministers have meetings scheduled with Minister of Environmental Affairs Keit Pentus, Minister of Social Affairs Hanno Pevkur, Minister of Defence Mart Laar, Minister of Education Jaak Aaviksoo, and Minister of Culture Rein Lang.

During the visit a social security agreement will be signed, as will an agreement on co-operation in education, culture, youth affairs and sports. A co-operation memorandum between the ministries of defence and a co-operation memorandum between the ministries of environmental affairs will also be signed.
