Foreign Ministry Coming Events: 7 - 13 November 2011


7.-8.11 Consultations on legal and consular affairs between the foreign ministries of Estonia and the Czech Republic will take place in Tallinn. The Estonian delegation will be led by Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Legal and Consular Affairs Lauri Bambus.

7.11 Foreign Minister Urmas Paet will meet with members of the Riigikogu foreign affairs committee and finance committee.

8.11 In honour of its 93rd anniversary, the Foreign Ministry is inviting visitors to attend an open house from 13.00 until 16.00. Guests will become acquainted with the work of the Foreign Ministry, participate in a video chat with an Estonian diplomat in Brussels, and have the opportunity to pose questions to Foreign Minister Urmas Paet and director general of the consular department Rasmus Lumi.

Guests will be able to take a tour of the Foreign Ministry building and view the exhibit tintroducing the past and present of the ministry and Estonian diplomacy. The tours will be led by Estonian ambassadors and top officials of the Foreign Ministry.

8.11 Foreign Minister Urmas Paet will meet with students at Tallinn Nõmme High School and Tallinn Õismäe Russian Lyceum.

8.11 The roundtable “Estonian-Afghan Relations and the International Context around the Current Situation in Afghanistan” will take place at the Foreign Ministry; the ten Afghan diplomats currently in Estonia for a training course will be in attendance. The roundtable will be moderated by director of the Estonian School of Diplomacy Ekke Nõmm. The Afghan diplomats are in Estonia within the framework of the Estonian School of Diplomacy’s development co-operation project entitled “Training course on diplomacy, international relations, and EU/NATO relations for Afghan diplomats and state officials”.

8.11 The foreign ambassadors residing in Estonia will be in East Viru County, where they will visit Eesti Energia and Enefit.

9.11 Foreign Minister Urmas Paet will meet with the students of Tallinn’s 37th Secondary School.

11.11 Foreign Minister Urmas Paet will meet with Turkish Minister for European Union Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis. At their meeting they will discuss Estonia-Turkey bilateral relations and matters tied to European Union enlargement and EU Neighbourhood Policy. They will also address the situations in the Middle East, Northern Africa, and the Western Balkans, as well as the economic situation in Europe.

The Turkish European Union affairs minister will also meet with Andrus Ansip and chairman of the Riigikogu European Union affairs committee Taavi Rõivas. Minister Bagis will also present a lecture at the Estonian Foreign Policy Institute about developments in Turkey and its neighbourhood and relations with the EU.

The Estonian foreign minister and Turkish European Union affairs minister will give a joint press conference on Friday, 11 November at 12.30 in the Foreign Ministry press centre.

11.11 Foreign Minister Urmas Paet will meet with representatives of the Riigikogu foreign affairs committee and Riigikogu European Union affairs committee.

13.11 Foreign Minister Urmas Paet will participate in a meeting of the European Union foreign ministers in Brussels, where matters related to Russia will be discussed.
