Estonia Established Diplomatic Relations with Nauru

On Wednesday, 21 March, Estonian Ambassador to the UN Margus Kolga and Ambassador of Nauru to the UN Marlene Moses established diplomatic relations between Estonia and Nauru.

In the conversation that followed the establishing of relations, ambassadors Kolga and Moses discussed the UN Conference on Sustainable Development “Rio + 20” taking place in June of this year in Rio de Janeiro and UN Security Council Reform.

Ambassador Kolga introduced Estonia’s candidacy to be a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the years 2020-2021. Nauruan Ambassador Moses spoke about problems in small developing island nations related to climate change.

The Republic of Nauru is located in the Pacific Ocean. Nauru has an area of 21 km² and a population of slightly over 10 000. Nauru became independent in 1968 and joined the UN in 1999.
