At a meeting in Tbilisi with representatives of the Georgian opposition Bidzina Ivanishvili and Davit Usupashvili, Foreign Minister Urmas Paet said that the parliamentary elections on 1 October are Georgia’s opportunity to affirm their dedication to democratic values. “The success of the parliamentary elections depends on the responsible behaviour of all political powers,” Paet noted.
Paet stated that the presence of international observers that will evaluate how the elections are carried out is also essential. “Naturally, all political powers must accept the results of these free elections,” he added.
The representatives of the Georgian opposition confirmed that their programme also foresees Georgia’s close co-operation with NATO and the European Union and that foreign policy lines will not change.
