Estonian Ambassador to Lithuania Presents Credentials

On Wednesday, 19 September, Estonian Ambassador to Lithuania Toomas Kukk presented his credentials to President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite.

In the discussion that followed the presentation of credentials, President Grybauskaite and Ambassador Kukk acknowledged that Estonia and Lithuania have similar views and common goals in many areas.

President Grybauskaite stated that in addition to good close bilateral relations, Estonia and Lithuania have also had fruitful co-operation within the framework of Baltic co-operation and in the European Union. The Lithuanian president emphasised the need to preserve the equality of the two countries in discussions about the new European Union budget.

The two also discussed matters related to energy and both parties agreed that both Estonia and Lithuania hold the goal of increasing energy security in the Baltic region.

Ambassador Toomas Kukk was born on 10 August 1971 in Tapa. He completed Tapa Upper Secondary School and graduated from the Tallinn University of Technology with a degree in automation. Toomas Kukk completed the Estonian School of Diplomacy in 1995 and began working for the Foreign Ministry that same year. Toomas Kukk has worked in various positions in the Foreign Ministry, as well as at the Estonian Embassy in Poland and the Estonian Representation to NATO. Before assuming his current position Toomas Kukk was the Estonian ambassador to Bulgaria, a position which he now holds as a non-residing ambassador.

Toomas Kukk is married and has two daughters and a son.
