Estonian Ambassador to China Presents Credentials

On Tuesday, 9 October, Estonian Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China Toomas Lukk presented his credentials to Chinese President Hu Jintao.

In the discussion that took place after the credential presentation ceremony, President of China Hu Jintao recognised the development of Estonia and China’s bilateral relations. The Chinese president and Estonian ambassador discussed opportunities to further intensify economic relations and bilateral contacts. The Chinese president asked Ambassador Toomas Lukk to pass along greetings to Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves and wished the ambassador success in his work.

Estonian Ambassador Toomas Lukk was born in 1962 and graduated from the geography department at Tartu University. Lukk has worked at the Estonian Academy of Sciences. Beginning in 1993 he worked for the political department of the Foreign Ministry, as well as in Estonia’s representation in New York. From August 2002 to September 2006, Toomas Lukk was Estonia’s ambassador to Latvia, and following that he became the director of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia division at the Foreign Ministry. As of 2008 Toomas Lukk was the Estonian ambassador to Georgia and Armenia, residing in Tbilisi.

Ambassador Toomas Lukk is fluent in English and Russian and conversationally fluent in Latvian and Finnish. He is married and has two sons.
