Estonian Ambassador to Moldova Presents Credentials

On Thursday, 11 October, Estonian Ambassador to Moldova Sulev Kannike presented his credentials to President of Moldova Nicolae Timofti. Ambassador Kannike resides in Kiev.

In the discussion that followed the presentation of credentials, Estonian Ambassador Sulev Kannike and Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti discussed Moldova’s accession prospects with the European Union and the future of the EU Eastern Partnership policy. The Moldovan president emphasised the importance of the judicial reforms currently underway.

Sulev Kannike was born in 1953. He began his diplomatic career in 1995. From 1995-1996 Kannike was the director general of the Foreign Ministry’s legal department, from 1997-1998 he was the director general of the policy planning department, and from 1998-1999 he was the director general of the Foreign Ministry’s political department. From 1999 until 2003 Kannike was Estonia’s ambassador to NATO. From 2003-2005 Kannike served at the undersecretary for political affairs at the Ministry of Defence and from 2005-2007 as the Foreign Ministry’s counsellor for global security matters. From 2007 until 2011 he was the Estonian ambassador to the European Council. Until the fall of this year, Kannike was the Foreign Ministry undersecretary for political affairs. As of September Sulev Kannike is the Estonian ambassador to Ukraine.
