Foreign Ministry Coming Events: 4− 10 February 2013

04.02 A session of the European Union General Affairs Council will take place in Brussels, during which preparations will be made for the European Council taking place from 7-8 February. The council will be focusing on reaching an agreement in negotiations for the next European Union budgetary period (2013-2020); the council will also approve conclusions on Mali, Syria, the Arab Spring, and foreign trade. During the council session Ireland will present the programme for its presidency, in which the key words are economic growth and employment.

04-08.02 A delegation from Afghanistan along with seven Afghan entrepreneurs will visit Estonia. The delegation will be led by Abdullah Dastagir Ghulam Farooq of the Afghan Ministry of Commerce and Industries. The goal of the visit is to advance business relations with Estonia and first and foremost to find goods and services that could potentially be exported from Estonia to Afghanistan.

05.02 Foreign Minister Urmas Paet will meet in London with Foreign Minister of Great Britain William Hague. Topics to be discussed include European Union issues, including the next EU financial framework and the future of the euro zone. The ministers will also discuss Estonia-Great Britain bilateral relations as well as e-state and cyber security topics. They will also address the situations in Afghanistan, Mali, Algeria, and Syria.

06.02 Foreign Minister Urmas Paet will open the Estonian Honorary Consulate in Aberdeen, Scotland. The Estonian honorary consul in Aberdeen is Simpson Buglass.

07.-08.02 European Council will take place in Brussels. The council will be focusing on reaching an agreement in negotiations for the next European Union budgetary period (2013-2020); the council will also approve conclusions on Mali, Syria, the Arab Spring, and foreign trade

08.02 Foreign Minister Urmas Paet will meet with the new ambassador of Italy.

08.02 Foreign Minister Urmas Paet will participate in the board meeting of the Foreign Policy Institute.
