Estonian Ambassador to Mongolia Presents Credentials

On Tuesday, 9 April, Estonian Ambassador to Mongolia Toomas Lukk presented his credentials to President of Mongolia Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj. The ambassador resides in Beijing.

In the conversation that followed the presentation of credentials, President of Mongolia Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj and Ambassador Toomas Lukk expressed hope that the appointment of Estonia’s first non-residing ambassador to Mongolia would help to develop bilateral relations.

The Mongolian president was interested in recent developments in Estonia’s economic and IT sectors. The Mongolian president and Estonian ambassador also discussed opportunities to co-operate in logistics and energy matters.

President Elbegdorj asked Ambassador Toomas Lukk to pass greetings along to Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves along with an invitation to visit Mongolia.

Estonian Ambassador Toomas Lukk was born in 1962 and graduated from the geography department at Tartu University. Lukk has worked at the Estonian Academy of Sciences. Beginning in 1993 he worked for the political department of the Foreign Ministry, as well as in Estonia’s representation in New York. From August 2002 to September 2006, Toomas Lukk was Estonia’s ambassador to Latvia, and following that he became the director of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia division at the Foreign Ministry. As of 2008 Toomas Lukk was the Estonian ambassador to Georgia and Armenia, residing in Tbilisi. Since October of 2012 Toomas Lukk has been the Estonian Ambassador to China.

Ambassador Toomas Lukk is fluent in English and Russian and conversationally fluent in Latvian and Finnish.
