Foreign Minister Urmas Paet: Turkish Airlines Flying to Estonia Will Significantly Expand Travel Opportunities

No 196-E

Today at Tallinn Airport on the occasion of the opening of a Tallinn-Istanbul flight by Turkey’s national airline Turkish Airlines, Foreign Minister Urmas Paet said an airline with such a broad network of flights coming to Estonia significantly expands travel opportunities for Estonian people.

“Turkish Airlines is one of the world’s strongest airlines, and now the opportunity to fly through Istanbul to more than 200 destinations around the world has been brought to Estonia,” Paet noted.

“In addition to Turkey, now people can reach many countries in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East with fewer connections,” said Paet. The foreign minister also noted that the opening of the new flight route will help to intensify ties between Estonia and Turkey and facilitate the development of tourism.

Paet also recognised Turkish Airlines’ decision to open a flight to Estonia. “This is a positive decision considering the general economic climate and the flight cuts that airlines all over Europe are making,” he said.

Foreign Minister Paet said the Estonia Foreign Ministry had a concrete desire to see a Tallinn-Istanbul flight opened. “We have worked consistently to make it happen,” he added.
