Estonian Ambassador to Cyprus Presented His Credentials

On 4 November, Estonian Ambassador to the Republic of Cyprus presented his credentials to the President Nicos Anastasiades. Ambassador Rava resides in Athens and is also Estonia’s new ambassador to Greece and Albania.

In the conversation that followed the ceremony of presenting credentials, Ambassador Margus Rava said that Estonia and Cyprus are two small countries that, besides sharing European values, are also connected by their experiences of overcoming economic difficulties. Estonia values Cyprus’ efforts to solve the financial crisis and implement reforms that support economic growth. Rava also named three very clear examples of close economic cooperation between the two states. “Firstly, more than ten thousand Estonian tourists visit the Mediterranean shores of Cyprus annually. Secondly, the Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation has come into force lately. Thirdly, Cyprus is currently the number one destination for Estonian direct investments abroad,” added Rava.

Rava also expressed that Estonia hopes the negotiations for a solution of the Cyprus problem will progress soon with a view to achieving a fair, comprehensive and viable settlement within the UN framework.
