Foreign Minister Urmas Paet: NATO’s Door Continues To Be Open

At the meeting of the foreign ministers of NATO member states, Foreign Minister Urmas Paet said that NATO must be open to new members if they are ready for it.

“Multifaceted cooperation must be continued with NATO candidate countries, including Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Georgia, in order to help them prepare for NATO membership,” added Paet.

According to Paet, every round of alliance enlargement has significantly strengthened Euro-Atlantic security. “Next year, a decade will have passed since Estonia’s accession to NATO and since then Europe has become more free and secure,” he added.

The foreign minister asserted that NATO also needs to forge closer ties with partner countries.
