Foreign Minister Urmas Paet: the events in Ukraine are extremely tragic

05.05.2014

Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet expressed his deep concern about the tragic events and escalating violence in Ukraine. “The events in Odessa and the loss of tens of lives are shocking,” Paet said. “The only way to stop further escalation of events is to put an end to provocations and start domestic talks to resolve the conflict,” he added.

According to Paet, it is very important that Russia also adopt a clear de-escalating stance and stop interfering in Ukraine's affairs. “An extensive presence of international observers is necessary as well,” Paet added.
Unless steps are taken to stabilize the situation, there is a great risk of continued tragic events and an even larger number of victims, Paet stated.
