Foreign Minister Urmas Paet: today's provocations in eastern Ukraine are aimed at deepening the conflict

Foreign Minister Urmas Paet will participate at a meeting of the European Union foreign ministers on Monday, May 12 in Brussels, where the main topic of discussion will be the situation in Ukraine.

The foreign ministers will discuss the latest events in eastern Ukraine and correspondingly further relations with Russia. “The provocations carried out in Luhansk and Donetsk Oblasts today, which some call “referenda” to secede from the given regions of Ukraine are clearly not legally binding and are aimed at deepening the conflict," Foreign Minister Paet said. “Their objective is solely to increase instability in Ukraine,” he added.

In addition to the subject of Ukraine, the European Union foreign ministers will also discuss the Middle East Peace Process and European Neighbourhood Policy.
