An Estonian Honorary Consulate was opened in Belfast

On Friday, May 23, the Foreign Ministry undersecretary for Legal and Consular Affairs Lauri Bambus and the Estonian Ambassador in London Aino Lepik von Wirén opened the Estonian Honorary Consulate in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The Estonian Honorary Consul in Belfast is Mark Joseph Ewings.

Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Lauri Bambus said that Estonia is interested in developing closer economic relations with Northern Ireland. The economies of Estonia and Northern Ireland are similar in terms of the size of the local market, as well as due to the fact that export and innovation are key to the economic growth of both regions. "That is why we hope that our new Honorary Consul succeeds in helping Estonian enterprises find new opportunities for business relations, export and investments, as well as in introducing the Estonian business environment to local businesses," Bambus said.

The Undersecretary said that in addition to developing business connections, we also consider it important that with the help of the honorary consul, new opportunities will arise to introduce Estonia in Belfast and Northern Ireland as an interesting travel destination, as well as to strengthen cultural contacts between the two regions.

Estonia now has six honorary consulates in the United Kingdom, but the embassy in London will continue its work to further extend the network of honorary consuls. "We appreciate our honorary consuls and their contribution to helping citizens of Estonia and introducing our country in the United Kingdom," Bambus said.

Estonian Honorary Consul Mark Ewings stressed at the opening of the honorary consulate that his wish is to develop economic and cultural relations between Estonia and the United Kingdom, as well as to be of help to those Estonians who come to the honorary consulate seeking help.

The consular area of the honorary consul in Belfast is Northern Ireland. The honorary consulate's address is Hurst House, 15-19 Corporation Square, Belfast, BT1 3AJ. The honorary consulate can be contacted by phone: +44 28 9024 2242 or by e-mailing
