Foreign Minister Paet: we are grateful to our friends and allies for supporting the release of Eston Kohver

Foreign Minister Urmas Paet stated that Estonia highly appreciates the support of friends and allies, and their call for the release of Estonian Internal Security Service officer Eston Kohver, who was abducted from Estonian territory and taken to Russia and detained there on September 5. “Many countries have expressed their support regarding this issue and have made official public statements calling for the return of Kohver to Estonia,” he noted.

He added that a public statement calling for the release of Eston Kohver and allowing for his return to Estonia from Russia has been issued by the United States, Germany, Denmark, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Finland, Ireland, Austria, Spain, Turkey, Canada, Latvia, Italy, Lithuania, Georgia, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Poland, Holland, France and Sweden.

“The foreign ministers of the Nordic and Baltic countries did the same – Estonia, along with Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Latvia and Lithuania issued a joint statement demanding the immediate release of Eston Kohver at their meeting last Friday,” Paet said.
