Estonian businesses are on a trade mission in the area of Leeds in the UK

Today, on March 6, a two-day trade mission of Estonian enterprises continues in the area of Leeds, UK. The head of the Estonia delegation, Ambassador Lauri Bambus said the goal of the mission is to develop economic and cooperation contacts between Estonia and the Leeds area,  as well as between Estonia and the United Kingdom. "We would like to introduce the Estonian economic environment and development over the past years and find opportunities for cooperation in various fields," Bambus noted.

The ambassador added that Estonia and the Leeds area share the desire to make the functioning of all sectors more efficient through innovation and information technology solutions. Leeds City Region Representative Roger Marsh expressed hope, that the knowledge exchanged during the mission and contacts made will lead to direct cooperative relationships between businesses. The chief executive  director of Leeds and Partners Lurene Joseph also confirmed that it has been a successful visit and hopefully it will soon be possible to organize a trade mission of Leeds businesses to Estonia.

The trade mission has focused mainly on topics in the fields of financial technology, health and innovation. Yesterday seminar day began with a more general introduction of the two regions, where counsellor to the Minister of Foreign Trade and Entrepreneurship Maria Värton introduced Estonia's economic and investment climate. Then the Estonian and Leeds businesses divided up into sectorial workshops, followed by meetings between companies. Today they will visit York and Huddersfield.

In addition to the business programme, Ambassador Lauri Bambus met yesterday with the Mayor of Leeds and other regional representatives of the Leeds area. Today, the Estonian Ambassador will present a introductory lecture about Estonia at Leeds Beckett University, where he will speak to journalism students about e-Estonia and will introduces the project "100 friends." An exhibition of nature photographs by renowned Estonian photographer Sven Začek was also opened in Leeds yesterday, where the photographer was on hand to personally introduce his works.

The trade mission to Leeds was organized by the Estonian Embassy in London in collaboration with Enterprise Estonia and local organizations Leeds and Partners and the Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership. Representatives from Finance Estonia, Ziraff Consulting, FiNexus, Kreutzwaldi Eye Clinic, the Estonian Health Insurance Fund, Seve, Viking Window, Rake and Timbet were on hand from Estonia.
