The Minister of Foreign Affairs made a proposal to the government to name Rainer Saks as the new Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Marina Kaljurand tabled a proposal for tomorrow’s session to name the current Director General of the Information Board, Rainer Saks, as the new Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1 December of this year.

„I am very glad that Rainer Saks accepted my offer and I could submit a proposal to the government to name him as the new Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Saks is one of Estonia’s top officials, who has more than sixteen years of experience in public service, including also the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and fourteen years of management experience. I am certain that he will be a very good Secretary General to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,“ said Minister of Foreign Affairs Marina Kaljurand.

Rainer Saks worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the counsellor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs between 1999-2001. From 2001 to 2006 he worked at the Government Office as the acting Coordination Director of the Coordination Unit. From 2006 to 2011 Rainer Saks was the Director of the Office of the President. From 2007 to 2011 he was the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of The International Centre for Defence Studies. From 2011 Saks holds the office of the Director General of the Information Board.

The current Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alar Streimann will commence work as the Estonian Ambassador to the French Republic from 27 August. Undersecretary External Economic Policy and Development Cooperation Affairs Väino Reinart will perform the duties of the acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 27 August until 30 November.
