Estonia's Ambassador to Russia Arti Hilpus presented his credentials

On Thursday, November 26, Estonia's new Ambassador to Russia, Arti Hilpus, presented his credentials to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

While addressing the ambassadors who had gathered for the presentation of credentials ceremony, President Vladimir Putin confirmed Russia's readiness to promote good neighbourly relations with Estonia and a dialogue based on mutual respect. “The entry into force of the border agreements could contribute to enhancing trust between the countries,” President Putin said.

In his conversation with President Putin, Ambassador Hilpus highlighted some recent positive developments in bilateral relations and expressed hope that this trend will continue. “Work should be done in small, but clear steps,” the Ambassador said. On the topic of building trust, the Ambassador stressed that this is necessary in the case of two neighbouring countries, but inevitably takes time and requires action on the part of both parties.

Arti Hilpus was born on October 31, 1972. He is a cum laude graduate of the University of Tartu in history and has also graduated from the Geneva Centre for Security Policy. From 1995 to 1996, he worked as a counsellor at the State Chancellery. In 1996, he began working at the Foreign Ministry as the Director of the Personnel Division (1996-1998). Following that, Hilpus assumed the post of Director of Division, Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union at the Foreign Ministry (1999-2001 and 2005-2006) and was Director of the Foreign Ministry’s Security Policy Division. From 2001 to 2004, he worked at the embassy in Berlin and from 2009 to 2012 was the Estonian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Norway and the Republic of Iceland. Before assuming his current position, he was the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.
