Foreign Minister Sven Mikser condemns Manchester terrorist attack


Foreign Minister Sven Mikser condemned the terrorist attack in Manchester in which more than 20 people were killed and more than 50 were injured according to initial information.

“Today is a sad day for Europe. We strongly condemn this brutal act of terrorism. Terrorism has no place in our world and we must fight back against it together,” Mikser said. “My sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims and wounded and to people in the UK,” he added.

“We must make the security of our citizens our priority. The fight against terrorism must above all be decisive, effective and based on international cooperation,” the Foreign Minister emphasised.

According to initial information which has reached the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there were no Estonian citizens among the casualties of the Manchester attack.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends the Estonian citizens in Manchester to avoid the area and follow the instructions of the local authorities. The Foreign Ministry also asks the Estonians in Manchester to establish contact with their friends and relatives.
