Foreign Ministry allocates 30,000 euros for Sierra Leone disaster relief

The Estonian Foreign Ministry has contributed 30,000 euros through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to alleviate the aftermath of mudslides in Sierra Leone earlier this month.

“Sierra Leone has been hit by a terrible disaster and Estonia is firmly committed to helping the country,” said Foreign Minister Sven Mikser. “We wish the government of Sierra Leone fortitude in easing the aftermath of the disaster and assisting inhabitants.

Two weeks ago, mudslides claimed the lives of over 300 in the capital of Sierra Leone, Freetown.

On 15 August, the president of Sierra Leone declared seven days of national mourning.

Estonia’s contribution comes from the development and humanitarian aid resources in the Foreign Ministry’s 2017 budget.
