Mikser at OSCE meeting: we call on Russia to abide by its international obligations

In his speech at the Organization for Security and Cooperation foreign ministers in Europe today in Vienna, Foreign Minister Sven Mikser focused today on support for Ukrainian sovereignty and human rights protection.

“It has been more than three years since Crimea was illegally annexed, but unfortunately the main topic at this year’s foreign ministers’ meeting is still Russian aggression against the Ukrainian people,” said Mikser. “We call on Russia to abide by International norms and to fulfil its obligations to restore Ukraine’s territorial integrity, he said in the speech.

At the meeting, Mikser said the fundamental rights and freedoms of people in the OSCE region had to be protected. “The constant violation of the human rights of Crimean Tatars is just one example that the OSCE must not lose sight of.”

Alongside the OSCE meeting, Mikser also met Uzbek Deputy Foreign Minister Gayrat Fablov; Kazakh Foregn Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov, OSCE High Commissioner Lamberto Zannier, Afghai Foregn Minister Salahuddin Rabbani and Liechtenstein Foreign Minister Aurelia Frick.

The next OSCE foreign ministers’ meeting will take place next year in Milan
