The EU promises to help in solving the situation at the Estonian Embassy in Moscow

30 April - Late this evening, Foreign Minister Urmas Paet spoke by telephone with the European Union Presidency, Germany’s Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Foreign Minister Paet brought the situation at the Estonian Embassy in Moscow to the attention of the EU Presidency. “The Russian side has not made any attempts to ensure the security of the Estonian Embassy in Moscow or the security of its workers,” said Paet. German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier promised a rapid European Union response to help normalise the situation around the Estonian Embassy in Moscow.

Foreign Minister Paet also gave an overview of the Russian State Duma delegation’s visit to Estonia. “We have demonstrated our good will in welcoming the State Duma delegation. However, the delegation has intervened in internal Estonian matters by demanding the resignation of the democratically elected government,” stressed Paet.
