No. 34-E

Foreign Minister Urmas Paet stated that the Estonian consular aid diplomats that were sent to Egyptian resort towns arrived in Sharm el-Sheik and Hurghada.

“The first task of the Estonians consuls is to make contact with representatives of the Estonian travel agencies there to get an overview of the reigning situation,” sid Paet. The foreign minister added that the consuls can provide aid and support to Estonian tourists and Estonians who live in the area if necessary.

Foreign Minister Paet noted that the Foreign Ministry is in contact with the Finnish Foreign Ministry to discuss opportunities for jointly helping citizens of the two countries leave Cairo on a Finnish charter plane. “According to the current plan, a Finnish charter plane is scheduled to depart from Cairo airport on Wednesday, 2 February,” said Paet.

The foreign minister stated that the Estonian consul has informed Estonians that live in Egypt permanently of the opportunity to leave the Cairo region on the Finnish charter flight. “Those who wish to depart on the charter plane must contact and notify our consul, who is sharing information about the flight and travel conditions to the airport,” added Paet.
