Foreign Minister Urmas Paet Spoke to Syrian Ambassador About Estonian Citizens Abducted in Lebanon


Today Foreign Minister Urmas Paet spoke to Syria’s new ambassador to Estonia Farouk Taha about the Estonian citizens abducted in Lebanon and about Estonia-Syria bilateral relations.

Foreign Minister Urmas Paet stated that co-operation is ongoing with countries in that region, including Syria, to discover the location of the seven abducted Estonian citizens and free them. Ambassador Taha assured Foreign Minister Paet that the Syrian authorities are prepared to co-operate to help resolve this situation.

Paet and Taha also discussed opportunities to intensify diplomatic relations between Estonia and Syria. “We are in the process of naming an Estonian ambassador to Syria,” said Foreign Minister Paet.
