Estonia to Establish Visa Representation Agreement with Belgium

05.04.2012

No. 86-E
5 April 2012

Estonia decided to establish a visa representation agreement with Belgium. Foreign Minister Urmas Pet said at today’s government session that on the basis of the agreement to be concluded between Estonia and Belgium, Belgium will represent Estonia for the issuing of visas in Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Estonia has concluded representation agreements for the issuing of Schengen visas with Austria, Spain, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, France, Germany, Finland, Slovenia, Denmark, Hungary, and Switzerland. Currently Estonia is represented on the basis of representation agreements in a total of 84 countries in which Estonia does not have its own embassy or consulate.

In accordance with the Schengen acquis, agreements can be concluded that allow one Schengen state to represent another for the issuing of visas, if the latter state does not have its own representation in the given third country.
