Estonian Embassy organises Nordic walking in Istanbul

27.04.2012

On next Sunday, 6 May, Nordic walking will take over Istanbul's Bosporus bridge, which connects Asia and Europe. This year, the Turkish Ministry for European Union Affairs, Istanbul's City Council and the Governor of Istanbul will help to organise the sports event, which has already become a tradition for the Estonian Embassy.

Istanbul is the Sports Capital of Europe in 2012.

The Nordic walking event aims to promote Estonia as an innovative, dynamic and open country. All enthusiasts are welcome, from both Turkey and elsewhere (registration via the embassy e-mail: ). This is a great opportunity to try a type of sports that has been almost unknown in Turkey to date.

Participants of the event include the Foreign Minister of Estonia, Urmas Paet, and Turkish minister for EU Affairs, Egemen Bağış. The history and correct technique of Nordic walking is introduced by the creator of the event, Marko Kantaneva. All participants can use walking poles by the MARKO brand, which is registered in Estonia (www.markobrand.com).

After the walking session, the Estonian Foreign Minister and the Turkish EU Minister are due to hold a meeting, where the agenda will include bilateral ties between Estonia and Turkey, current EU affairs and Turkey's accession talks with the European Union.
