Estonian Ambassador to Israel Presents Credentials

On Thursday, 24 May, Estonian Ambassador to the State of Israel Malle Talvet-Mustonen presented her credentials to President Shimon Peres.

In the discussion that followed the credential presentation ceremony, President Shimon Peres highlighted the good relations between Estonia and Israel. President Peres noted Estonia’s leading role in the information technology realm, emphasising that today most knowledge and innovation-based areas of co-operation are not limited by state borders. Ambassador Talvet-Mustonen stated that closer co-operation in this sector would be in the interest of both countries and help to ensure that Estonia and Israel would be at the forefront of the information technology sector in the future as well.

Ambassador Talvet-Mustonen stated that in addition to science, Estonia-Israel also have active co-operation in realm of culture, which is very meaningful and cherished in both countries. “Cultural figures in Estonia and Israel have already created fruitful contacts in the areas of design, literature, and music,” the ambassador added.

Malle Talvet-Mustonen was born on 16 December 1955 in Pärnu. She graduated from the Tallinn Music High School in 1974 and from University of Tartu with a degree in Romance and German philology in 1980.

She has worked for the Estonian Foreign Ministry since 1991. Talvet-Mustonen has served as the chargé d’affaires at the Estonian Embassy in Paris, the permanent representative of the Republic of Estonia to UNESCO, and an a counsellor at the Estonian representation to the UN and other international organisations in Geneva. Prior to being named an ambassador, Talvet-Mustonen was a division director in the Foreign Ministry’s political department. From 2003 to 2008 Malle Talvet-Mustonen was the Estonian ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg. After that she worked as the director general of the Foreign Ministry’s second political department.

Malle Talvet-Mustonen is a member of the Estonian Writers’ Union and has translated English, French and Italian literature.
