Estonian Ambassador to the Netherlands Presents Credentials

Today, 6 June, Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands Peep Jahilo presented his credentials to Queen Beatrix.

During their discussion following the presentation of credentials, Queen Beatrix recalled her memorable state visit to Estonia in 2008.

The queen and the ambassador also addressed matters related to the economic crisis and developments in Estonia following accession to the euro. They thoroughly discussed energy security as well as renewable energy, including its connections to environmental protection. Also addressed were Estonia’s developments in the area of new technologies. Regional co-operation was also discussed within the framework of both the Nordic-Baltic and the Benelux formats.

Ambassador Peep Jahilo was born on 24 September 1962 in Tallinn. He graduated from the philology department of Tartu University in 1985. Jahilo has worked in the foreign service since 1990. He has worked in various positions in the Foreign Ministry as well as in the Office of the President of the Republic. From 1995-1997 Jahilo was the charge d’affaires ad interim in London and from 2000-2004 the ambassador to Norway and Iceland. From 2004-2007 Peep Jahilo served as the director general of the Foreign Ministry’s internal audit department. From 2004-2009 he was the Estonian ambassador to Albania, residing in Tallinn and Athens. From 2007-2009 Jahilo was the ambassador to Greece and Cyprus. Jahilo has also been the non-residing ambassador to India since 2010. From 2009 until April of this year Peep Jahilo worked as an undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry.
