Estonian Ambassador to Ukraine Presents Credentials

Yesterday, 10 September, the new Estonian ambassador to Ukraine Sulev Kannike presented his credentials to Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovytch.

While presenting his credentials, Ambassador Kannike passed along congratulatory messages from the Estonian president and prime minister to the Ukrainian people in honour of the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations being established between Estonia and Ukraine.

Sulev Kannike was born in 1953. He began his diplomatic career in 1995. From 1995-1996 Kannike was the director general of the Foreign Ministry’s legal department, from 1997-1998 he was the director general of the policy planning department, and from 1998-1999 he was the director general of the Foreign Ministry’s political department. From 1999 until 2003 Kannike was Estonia’s ambassador to NATO. From 2003-2005 Kannike served at the undersecretary for political affairs at the Ministry of Defence and from 2005-2007 as the Foreign Ministry’s counsellor for global security matters. From 2007 until 2011 he was the Estonian ambassador to the European Council. Prior to assuming his current position, Kannike was the Foreign Ministry undersecretary for political affairs.
