During his meeting in New York with Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikuli, Foreign Minister Urmas Paet said that Estonia would like to have closer co-operation with Thailand in the areas of political contacts, economic co-operation, and tourism.

The Estonian and Thai foreign ministers signed an agreement for the prevention of double taxation as well as an agreement for cultural and educational co-operation between Estonia and Thailand.

At his meeting with his Thai colleague, the Estonian foreign minister once again suggested that Thailand implement a visa waiver for Estonian citizens. “It would help tourism relations if Estonian citizens were able to enter Thailand without a visa,” he said.

Estonia would also like to conclude an agreement on co-operation in aviation with Thailand.

Paet stated that Estonia welcomes a Thai delegation to come to Tallinn for political consultations. “We have also appointed an ambassador to Thailand, residing in Tallinn,” he added.

During their meeting the foreign ministers of Estonia and Thailand talked about co-operation within the UN and supporting one another’s candidatures. “We hope to have Thailand’s support for Estonia’s candidature at the elections for the Human Rights Council on 12 November in New York,” Paet stated.
