Estonia Opens Honorary Consulate in Rovaniemi

Today, 24 October, Minister of Education and Research Jaak Aaviksoo opened Estonia's new honorary consulate in Rovaniemi, Finland. Estonian Ambassador to Finland Mart Tarmak also participated in the opening. Estonia's new honorary consul in Rovaniemi is Päivi Tuulikki Ohvo.

The honorary consulate opened in Rovaniemi will help to provide consular services to Estonian citizens living in the Lapland region, of whom there are over 300 with 50 living in Rovaniemi.

The honorary consul's consular region is the region of Lapland. The honorary consulate is located at Marttiinintie 6  and the honorary consul can be reached by phone at  +358 40 3110 610.

Estonian honorary consuls provide Estonian citizens with certain consular services. Honorary consuls help to promote cultural and economic ties between Estonia and Finland.

This morning Minister of Education and Research Jaak Aaviksoo also gave a lecture at the University of Lapland in which he addressed the challenges faced by small countries in an ever-globalising world.
