Markus Kasemaa’s Exhibition “Figures 1” on Display at University of Southern Denmark

No 37-TT

On 5 November Markus Kasemaa’s exhibition entitled “Figures 1” was opened at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense. Ambassador of Estonia to Denmark Katrin Kivi participated in the exhibition opening. The exhibition will remain open to guests until 30 November.

Ambassador Katrin Kivi expressed her satisfaction over the fact that the Estonian Embassy in Denmark in co-operation with Estonian Honorary Consul Bo Stærmose was able to help with both setting up the exhibition and finding an appropriate venue for it. “Contemporary Estonian art and the works of our artists deserve to be seen in the world,” the ambassador noted.

Ambassador Kivi also learned about the University of Southern Denmark and met with its chancellor Jens Oddershede. Ambassador Kivi and chancellor Oddershede discussed the issue of the globalisation of higher education and opportunities for Estonian and Danish universities to co-operate more closely in the future in the area of student exchanges. The meeting was also attended by Estonian Honorary Consul for the Odense region Bo Stærmose, professor of the university’s political science institute Erik Albæk, and vice chancellor’s adviser Steen Kærn Chistainsen.

Information about Markus Kasemaa:

Markus Kasemaa (b. 1972) has studied art at Tartu Art School, Department of Sculpture (1990-1991) and at Tartu University, Department of Painting (1991-1995).He has had over 40 solo exhibitions since 1995 mostly in Estonia but also in Finland, Sweden, Belgium, Austria, Russia and Secondlife in different techniques like oil, acrylics, ink, graphite, gouashes, digipainting.

In his own words: For me value of an art piece comes from the idea or image or content, not so much from the used technique or material. There is nothing strange these days when a writer uses computer to write a novel or a composer uses it to create a symphony. It is normal that books are printed in print shops not hand-copied. All this does not undermine the value of a book or a piece of music. In addition to traditional galleries I like to show my art in more public places – places where people really are like city-space, shopping-centres, schools, libraries, offices, online, etc
