Estonian fashion design exhibition receives high recognition at London Fashion Week

The Estonian designers' exhibition “Fashion Now: Estonia” won the award for best display at the International Fashion Showcase, part of London Fashion Week. The best designer award went to fashion designer Seo Hyein and Yoshikazu Yamagata of Japan was chosen best curator.

In the case of the Estonian exhibition, the jury assessed the young designers’ creations, as well as the general concept and overall artistic design of the exhibition and decided that the Estonian exhibition was the best for the second year in a row. "With today’s victory we repeated last year’s great achievement and are the first country to have won the award twice in a row,” said Kristel Oitmaa, cultural counsellor of the Estonian Embassy in London." This win is a great recognition for Estonian fashion design and provides assurance that our fashion designers are competitive and able to excel in the international world of fashion," Oitmaa said.

This year Marit Ilison, Kärt Põldmann, Jo Nurm and Sille Sikmann are presenting their clothing and accessory collections as part of the Estonian exhibition. In addition to the creations of the four young Estonian designers, a part of the exhibition, entitled Kaamos or Polar Night, curated by Tanel Veenre, is also on display; it features 20 of the best examples of the work of Estonian fashion designers. The curator of the Estonian exhibition is Tanel Veerne, while Hannes Praks Studio is responsible for its overall design.

The International Fashion Designers Showcase is an event aimed at young designers organized by the British Fashion Council along with the British Council. The Estonian exhibition was organised thanks to the cooperative efforts of the Estonian Embassy in London, the Estonian Design Centre, the Estonian Ministry of Culture, the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Regional Development Fund, the Cultural Endowment of Estonia, the British Council and British Fashion Council.
