The North Atlantic Council discussed Russia's military action against Ukraine

The topics of discussion at today's emergency meeting of the North Atlantic Council and the NATO-Ukraine Commission were Russia's military action against Ukraine and its implications for Europe.

Foreign Minister Urmas Paet said that Russia's actions and threats against a sovereign Ukraine violate the UN Charter. “It also endangers peace and security in Europe,” he added.

According to the Estonian foreign minister, Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty must be respected. “The Ukrainian people have the right to determine their own future without outside interference," Paet said.
Foreign minister Paet emphasized that it is crucial to find a political solution to the crisis. “Negotiations are necessary in order to prevent the further escalation of events," the foreign minister said.

Paet said that NATO considers Ukraine its valued partner.
Tomorrow Paet will participate in an emergency meeting of the EU foreign ministers in Brussels.
