Estonian and Latvian Foreign Ministers will announce translation award recipient tomorrow

Tomorrow on May 22, Foreign Minister Urmas Paet will be on a working visit to Riga, Latvia, where he will meet with his Latvian counterpart Edgars Rinkēvičs.

Foreign Minister Paet and Latvian Foreign Minister Rinkēvičs will present the Estonian-Latvian and Latvian-Estonian translation award. The monetary value of the prize is 3 000 euros. The jury includes representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of both countries and the directors of the literature information centres of both countries.

Last year the award went to Latvian translator Maima Grīnberga. She has translated the works of many relevant Estonian writers into Latvian, including Jaan Kross and Enn Vetemaa, as well as the books of young people’s and children's writers Aidi Vallik, Sass Henno and Andrus Kivirähk.

During the meeting, Paet and Rinkēvičs will discuss the current security situation in Europe and developments in Ukraine. Bilateral relations between Latvia and Estonia will also be on the agenda, as well as regional projects and cooperation, and Latvia’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union during the first half of 2015.
