Estonian start-ups were given advice on entering the British market at the Estonian Embassy in London

On Monday May 19, an event aimed at start-ups in Estonia was held at the Estonian Embassy in London, where advice was given on entering the British market and useful contacts shared in hopes of finding investors. The event was organized by the Estonian Embassy in collaboration with the Estonian Guild in London.

According to the Embassy's economic affairs attaché Eva-Liisa Jaanus, four companies from London will visit the Startup Incubator operating at Tehnopol this week: SafeToAct, Lulu, Click2Drop and Placeabout. “We offered them the opportunity to introduce their products in the embassy and invited representatives of the London-based Startupbootcamp to the event, who provided feedback and advice during the presentation," Jaanus explained.

The visitors from Tehnopol were able to meet and share ideas with Estonian companies already successfully operating in Great Britain, including Transferwise and A representative from UK Trade & Investment introduced the Sirius Accelerator Programme. In addition, experienced entrepreneurs from Rainmaking Loft in London shared practical tips with young Estonian start-ups.

The director of the Technopolis startup community Triin Mahlakõiv said the event at the embassy was very useful. "All of the companies got ideas on how to introduce their products better in the future and find investors on the British market," she noted.

Guild leader Anneli Kimber said such joint events provide a good opportunity to bring together Estonian enterprises interested in the British market with the Estonian community in London. "Local Estonians are always happy to share their experiences and useful information on a specific sector of the economy or general characteristics of the British market," she said. The embassy's economic affairs attaché Eva-Liisa Jaanus confirmed that the embassy wishes to collaborate with the guild in order to hopefully organise similar business-oriented events in the future.
