No 235-E

At his meeting with Foreign Minister of Montenegro Milan Rocen, Foreign Minister Urmas Paet expressed Estonia’s readiness to share its European Union accession experiences with Montenegro. “We are prepared to send Estonian experts in various fields to Montenegro to help advise the country on, among other things, our reform experiences in making public sector work more effective and in developing the justice and taxation system,” Paet noted. “We hope that by the end of the year it will be possible to make the decision to begin accession negotiations with Montenegro,” he added.

During their meeting, the foreign ministers also spoke about European Union enlargement in general. “Concluding accession negotiations with Croatia gives an important signal regarding the vitally and success of the European Union’s enlargement policy,” said Paet. “The coming developments in Iceland’s accession are also important,” he added.
