The foreign minister presented the archival materials and mementos of Jüri Uluots to the University of Tartu


Foreign minister Urmas Paet presented the archive materials of Jüri Uluots, as well as mementos belonging to his family to the University of Tartu today. The foreign minister also gave a lecture to students of political science at the University of Tartu.

Foreign minister Paet reiterated that Jüri Uluots made a huge contribution to the founding of the Estonian state and the study of law at the University of Tartu. "Uluotsa's estate and legacy need to be preserved in a dignified manner and the University of Tartu is the best way of doing just that," he added.

The Jüri Uluots Memorial Fund was founded in 2011 as part of the University of Tartu Foundation. It is intended to support doctoral students doing research work in the field of political and social sciences.

Among the items to be handed over are the 1st Class of the Order of the White Star bestowed on Jüri Uluots and other items owned by Jüri Uluots and his family. Such items have not been exhibited to the public in the past.

Jüri Uluots (1890-1945) was an Estonian law professor and politician. From 1924 to 1944, he was affiliated with the University of Tartu, where he was a history professor and Vice Rector. Uluots was Prime Minister from October 12, 1939 to June 21, 1940 and Prime Minister in the duties of the President of the Republic from June 21, 1940 until his death.
