Foreign Minister Urmas Paet: New Zealand is geographically distant, but close to Estonia in terms of values

Foreign Minister Urmas Paet said in Tallinn at his meeting with New Zealand Environment, Communications and Information Technology Minister Amy Adams, that New Zealand is an important partner for Estonia, which shares the same values.

“We highly appreciate New Zealand’s fast and values-based response to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict," Paet said. “Despite the great geographical distance, the cooperation of states sharing the same values is essential given the current situation,” Paet said. “We have also agreed to hold the next political consultations between the Estonian and New Zealand foreign ministries,” he added. 

According to Foreign Minister Paet, Estonia as well as New Zealand stresses the importance of the role of cyber security. During her visit to Estonia, Minister Adams visited the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence. Paet invited New Zealand to cooperate closely with the Cyber Defence Centre.

On the subject of cooperation, Paet said that Estonia and New Zealand could strengthen and intensify economic cooperation and increase communication in the sphere of tourism.
