Kaljurand and Lidington spoke about the future of the European Union

At their meeting in Luxembourg, Foreign Minister Marina Kaljurand and UK Minister of State for Europe David Lidington discussed the future of the European Union, as well as bilateral defence and security cooperation. Foreign Minister Kaljurand thanked her British colleague for his support in the Eston Kohver case.

Lidington presented the views and interests of the United Kingdom regarding European Union reform and described the forthcoming United Kingdom referendum. “A strong, open and competitive European Union is in Estonia’s best interest. We have similar views on a number of topics, including trade policy, an open internal market and the development of a digital single market,” Foreign Minister Kaljurand said.

Kaljurand and Lidington also discussed the situation in Ukraine and relations with Russia.

Security issues and bilateral cooperation in the field of defence were discussed more broadly. Foreign Minister Kaljurand thanked the United Kingdom for its great contribution to bilateral defence cooperation.
