Foreign Minister Mikser: Estonia supports Kyrgyz Republic in building e-State


Today, Foreign Minister Sven Mikser met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Erlan Abdyldaev visiting Estonia to discuss bilateral relations, including matters related to ICT, relations between Kyrgyz Republic and the EU, and to sign a convention for the avoidance of double taxation.

“We greatly appreciate cooperation with the Kyrgyz Republic, the region’s most highly developed parliamentary democracy,” said Mikser. The Foreign Minister encouraged his counterpart to continue with reforms that promote democracy. “The Central Asia region is also strategically important for the EU and will definitely remain in the focus of the EU,” Foreign Minister affirmed. According to Mikser, Estonia is a strong advocate for strengthening EU-Kyrgyz Republic relations.

Foreign Minister acknowledged that cooperation in ICT has been successful and affirmed on-going Estonian support for developing the e-State of the Kyrgyz Republic. “Kyrgyzstan is our most important development cooperation partner in the region and we wish to continue with contributions to projects that are sustainable and to which our experience is the most useful. E-services are definitely one such cooperation area,” Foreign Minister said.

Both Foreign Ministers admitted that cooperation in the economic sector could be stronger. After the meeting, Foreign Ministers signed the Convention between the Republic of Estonia and the Kyrgyz Republic for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes on Income.

It is the first visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic to Estonia.
